Tuesday night to South Haven Lady Rams Junior Varsity and Varsity teams came away with wins on opening night of their 2018-2019 season.
The JV girls opened the night with a 30-22 win. Leading scorers for the JV team were Jina Patel with 10 points, Faith Lewis with 8 points and Taylor Williams with 7 points.
“Very proud of the girls tonight. It was a grind it out type of win but they kept fighting. Our defense was tremendous tonight only giving up 7 points in the second half.” Said Head JV coach Ben Jury.
The Varsity Lady Rams finished the sweep with the win as well beating the bees 42 to 29. Alexus Smith led all scorers in the game with 14 points and adding 18 rebounds. While Grace Lyons followed up with 9 points, 4 assists and 4 steals. Alexis Jeffries and Yazzmin Hall also chipped in 5 points apiece. Connie Phillips also made an impact with 18 rebounds.
“I was very pleased with many parts of the game, though at times it did get sloppy I was very proud of how the girls kept their composure. It was obvious a few girls had some first game jitters but regardless of the turnovers the girls kept encouraging each other and staying positive throughout the game. This is a special group of girls and all of them play together very well. It’s nice having a group that complements each other from top to bottom. Sometimes chemistry is the biggest part of success and this team definitely does have that.” Head Coach Joey Holland said.
“Right now we have a couple girls injured but the plan is to get them back soon and I think once we’re back in the full swing and everybody is healthy this team is going to really surprise some people.” Coach Holland added.
Tomorrow night the lady Rams are back at it again taking on the The Vikings from Bangor. JV is to start at 5:00 with varsity to follow at 6:30pm
