Last night the South Haven Lady Rams Jv and Varsity teams scored Wins against the chieftains of Dowagiac. Junior varsity started off the night winning 63-29.
“It was great to see the girls get our first home win of the season. A close game at halftime and the girls came out and won the 3rd quarter 21-2. 7 of our 9 scored tonight and all of them played a big role in a good win.” Said Coach Ben Jury.
In the varsity game, the lady Rams one a hard fought 40-32 game. In the first quarter both teams came out playing very tight and solid defense. Though the lady Rams managed to get to the free-throw line several times they struggled with their free throws but we’re still able to keep the game close to finishing the first quarter 10-14 chieftains.
In the second quarter the Rams began to put on pressure with full-court press, Forcing turnovers and allowing themselves to go into halftime with a 22-16 lead.
“ I was very happy with how the girls were playing in the first half, we were being very patient and waiting to get a good shot. Even though We struggled to make our free throws we did a good job putting the chieftains in foul trouble.” Said Coach Holland.
The second half for the Rams pretty much went the same way with both teams playing Solid defense. The Rams continue to keep their press on and wearing the chieftains down. In the fourth quarter the Lady Rams were able to come away with some big baskets and key free throws late in the game to hold onto the lead.
“ I was very proud of the girls today. it was a hard fought game but the girls stayed at it throughout and even when things didn’t go our way they didnt put their heads down and quit. They kept fighting until they were able to put the game away” Coach Holland Added.
