The girls cross country team competed in one of the nation’s largest invitationals in the country on Saturday, October 6th. The Portage XC Invitational had just over 300 high school teams with over 7,400 athletes competing this year! It started off to be a stormy morning with lightning delays for the morning races. The weather cleared by mid-morning and became warm and humid. The girls team was lead by Holli Dannenberg she was followed by Marnie Frost, Katie Schooley, Summer Corke running a PR of 22:46, Hayden Rooker, Cate Frost, and Ana Gonzalez. In the girls j.v. race the rams were lead by Kalin Hartman she was followed by Samantha VandenBerk running a PR of 26:27, Jordan Taylor, Hayley Rose, and Marlyn Rosas running a PR of 41:17. The course ran a bit slow due to the heavy morning rain making it muddy and soft. Overall, I am very pleased with the racing today our goal was to get out and compete against top ranked teams in our region and the girls raced very well! For the month of October our teams will race in PINK in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. The next cross country meet will be Tuesday, October 9th at Warner Camp where we will host a Jamboree against Allegan, Otsego, Sturgis, and Edwardsburg. Races will start at 5pm. Go Rams!
